Messy Job Search Heres an Anchor P.S: focusing your hunt around your greatest asset will undoubtedly give you the license to apply for jobs beyond your comfort zone â€" lets make this viral because job applicants around the world NEED to hear this. Messy Job Search? Heres an Anchor Is your job hunt all over the place?I’ve been noticing this as it relates to the corporate Olympians that I’ve been coaching of late. The crux of the matter is that many are unclear about their work history and objectives. Ironically, the same professionals who lead due diligence efforts prior to implementing a plan do not sit back and conduct the same evaluation of their careers. The result of this omission is that YOU could be missing out on key insights that make you more employable than you realize.Let me explain where I think this stems from and then offer you an alternative so that you can start securing more relevant, interesting, and productive job interviews.ExplanationLet’s imagine that you’ve worked 15-plus years in various roles for two to three companies. You spent your early years learning how to work with people and navigate corporate environments. At this point, what you learned back then is second nature to you.For instance, i t’s likely that at this stage in your career, you don’t have to think about the best format in which to share your executive summary with the VP of Operations. You know the drill. You also already know what to prioritize and de-prioritize based on your experiences and personal agenda.Alternatively, you deeply and personally understand what it takes to sell to your target audience. When it comes to marketing within your region of expertise, you know how to market to Arab mums for example. You know that in a “culture of plenty, ” there are certain nuances that resonate with this target audience. You’ve leveraged this insight so frequently that it’s not rare in your eyes. Again, all of this is now part of your professional persona and unless someone validates that this information a) exists, and b) is highly marketable then chances are that you are missing out on what could be the anchor you need to focus your job hunt.TweakYou need an anchor.   Share your resume with an ob jective third-party. Ask them to uncover 2-3 consistent threads in your career. For example, if you’ve always marketed to Arab mums then apply for companies that can benefit from your carefully curated insights. Alternatively, if you know how to prioritize findings for those who are aiming to achieve operational excellence then seek firms who are aiming to solve sticky operational challenges.P.S: focusing your hunt around your greatest asset will undoubtedly give you the license to apply for jobs beyond your comfort zone â€" lets make this viral because job applicants around the world NEED to hear this. Take ActionWant to hear a secret? Whenever I take on a new client, I do this exercise. I review resumes for insights. It’s part of my modus operandi as a former marketer of products and services.
